UMF - Maritime and River Federation of Marseilles-Fos | Close |
Representation
UMF is the umbrella organisation for all the shipping operators doing business at the port of Marseille-Fos. With 15 member organisations, UMF represents approximately 300 companies and more than 17,000 direct jobs. Role
By strengthening relations between the various member organisations, the Maritime and River Federation consolidates the core of the port community.UMF’s original remit was to represent and defend the interests of the shipping operators, a role that evolved to encompass the wider promotion of the port’s brand image and the valorisation of the business activities at Marseille-Fos.The synergies generated by its component parts allow it to assert itself as the only body capable of achieving consensus and negotiating the implementation of joint policies and shared priorities to further the development of the port community. A partnership
These policies are drawn up as part of cooperation with the various competent shipping authorities:
• Port of Marseille-Fos • Chambers of Commerce and Industry - Marseille Provence & Pays d’Arles • Local councils (Marseille City Hall, General council, Regional council, etc.) • Government services (Prefecture, Maritime Affairs, Customs, Air and Frontier Police, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Services, DRE [Regional public works authority], DRIRE [Regional industry, research and environmental authority], etc.)
Actions
Partnerships that come to life through concrete actions, originating from objectives set in the Port Charter, and the most important of which are managed by organisations or other groups specifically set up for the purpose, in domains as varied as:
• training for all the employees of businesses working at the port in “creating better synergies in the port community” • Port information technology, AP +, operated by Marseille Gyptis International, in which UMF is the major shareholder. • Lobbying activity to implement the port reform (law of 4th July 2008) • the promotion of the port of Marseille-Fos, coordinated by Marseille Europort, which includes the Port of Marseille, Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Marseille-Fos UMF
