The Indian Ocean opts once again for AP+!
AP+ will be operational in Mayotte on 31st May 2011
On 8th April 2010, Gilles Perzo, President of the Mayotte Maritime Federation, and François Mahé, President of MGI’s Executive Board, signed a draft agreement covering the launch of AP+ in the Port of Longoni in Mayotte on 31st May 2011. Following Port Louis in Mauritius, Mayotte is the second Indian Ocean port to adopt the AP+ Cargo Community System, the benchmark system nationally and in the French overseas departments and territories. “The AP+ CCS is aimed at port communities. It is of no financial or capital interest to any specific stakeholder but instead aims to optimise resources for all the port’s private and public sector stakeholders. Ports that decide to use AP+ are implementing a true overall quality approach as the system provides a structure for fluidity. The Mayotte port community demonstrated its keenness and expressed the need for structuring”, said François Mahé des Portes.
Longoni is a port with a significant level of transhipment activity. The AP+ system will help to make exchanges more fluid. Sylvie Lefebvre, the MGI project manager for Mayotte, explains that “AP+ is a major asset for the Mayotte Maritime Federation as it creates real synergy between all the port operators. It will give the port the means to realise its ambitions.”
According to Marie-Hélène Pasquier, a member of the MGI board and the secretary general of the Marseille-Fos Port and Maritime Union, “IT systems are imposed in many industry sectors. AP+ is stimulating for port stakeholders as they are involved. Furthermore, this CCS enriches existing maritime federations as it boosts synergies and helps to create professional groupings when there are none in existence.”
The next stage in the process for MGI is to carry out the audit that will enable the company to check how compatible the Port of Longoni’s procedures are with AP+. The audit will enable the port’s specific features to be identified and integrated into AP+.
