MGI continues its development in the DOM-TOM*:
Cayenne, 1st port on the American continent to be equipped with AP+ The Cayenne UMEP (Maritime and Port Federation) and MGI signed a framework agreement on 25 January 2010 on the commissioning of the AP+ Cargo Community System (CCS) on 3 November 2010. The agreement was signed by François Mahé des Portes, MGI’s President of the executive board, and Hervé Rouchon, vice-chairman of the UMEP, in the presence of Eddy Rano, the chairman of GIP (Guiana Port IT) and members of the UMEP committee.
Mahé des Portes said, “the decision to use AP+ always reflects the will of a port community that is aware of its role as a vehicle for progress.” “Following analysis by the GIP commission, the UMEP selected the software that is most suited to port community and in particular customs requirements. This software is already well established and therefore battled tested in other ports and is now eagerly awaited by all of our members. It will mark a significant stage in the development of the port”, commented Rouchon.
The UMEP was formed in 2006 by Dégrad des Cannes port community members and aims to bring together the companies working in the port and facilitate inter-company operations. Led by Philippe Ysnel, chairman of the UMEP and of the Syndicat des Commissionnaires agréés en Douane et des Transitaires (trade federation of forwarding agents and accredited customs brokers), the plan to use community data exchange software fits perfectly with its stated objectives. All the members have taken ownership of the project with the firm desire to see it through to completion.
The UMEP set up the GIP commission in order to analyse the various potential service providers and software. The commission analysed all the aspects relating to using software, including performance, adaptability to the services provided by the port, cost and service provider quality, under the leadership of Eddy Rano, the manager of a freight forwarding company which is part of an international group. The commission was made up of members from each port industry and selected AP+ provided by MGI with the UMEP then approving the choice based on the listed reasons. The GIP commission will act as the project structure until a company responsible for project development and monitoring is created.
